Choosing a project
I had so many ideas for my personal project that i had to use a process of elimination.
Some of the better idea are listed below:
A book of South Australian Theatres
A book of short stories
Building a computer
Designing and creating a computer program
Writing a play or production guide
Drawing a house blueprint
Making a piece of furniture
The idea i eventually settled on was making a piece of clothing.
There were two sub headings in this: a cosplay outfit, or a formal dress.
I chose a formal dress as it's a more practical thing since i have to attend a formal at the end of the year and within
the next 3 years. Also this is one of my grand money saving schemes. And i can't complain that it's not the style i wanted.
Getting Started
Getting started is quite often the hardest part of any project. I started with a preliminary sketch. Mind you, i am hopeless
drawing decent looking bodies so i asked Leesha Chan for a bit of help on that one, then i finished it off and drew the first
dress idea over it. They say we're ment to spend about 20 hours on the product, but i can see it's going to consume all my
spare time for the next 20 weeks.
I got the first sketch finished and was admiring it when Mrs Millard saw what i was doing and i explained that i was
going to do it for my IB Personal Project and she came out with a briliant book on Fashion Design: "Fashion Design And Drawing
Course" by Thames and Hudson. After looking through this i changed a few aspects of my first sketch. Mainly the torso, i bunched
the material in and had it following out from a ring between the models breasts.
